The Importance of Creating Time for Heart Connection in Relationship
The Importance of Creating Time for Heart Connecting in Relationship
I took a workshop this weekend and felt my heart cracked open. We danced and moved in silence and in laughter moving within a container of trust and connection. There were joyful and challenging emotions for many of us and I was reminded of how vitalizing and valuable this kind of connecting can be.
In our day to day lives and relationships we may easily be swallowed by work, children, school, household chores and more. Love partners may set up “date nights” in order to find one another amid the whirl of life. I remember those myself. I also remember we would often end up talking about the kids, their schoolwork, our own work or worse we would stare back at one another so overwhelmed with what was on our minds that we forgot how to find one another.
Communication is vital for a healthy relationship and sometimes what we need are fewer words and more body connection. Music, movement, dance, sitting together and leaning into one another – literally – on a mountain top, beach, living room floor or open field, just to be with one another quietly listening to the rhythm of our loved one’s heart and breath can be an intimate and deeply healing way to communicate and calm within ourselves and together with our partners.
Try this:
Set up a time with your partner to clear the furniture from a room and put on your favorite music. Dance or move to what fills your hearts. Come in and out of contact with one another, slow dance in one another’s arms and then put on soft gentle music and sit on the floor and have one person leaning into the other. Place a hand on your partner’s heart and rest silently.
Don’t underestimate the deep and meaningful communication that happens in simply being together. Connecting to our hearts is vital to our well-being and our relationships.
